Since 2006, Baked Studios has been imagining visual effects and animation for the feature film, television and advertising industries. From the beginning we’ve always maintained an artist-centric approach, placing our talented and highly passionate team at the center of everything that we do. We also subscribe to the principal that great work should be comprised of equal parts form and function. Every sequence, every shot and every frame has a story to tell and a message to convey. We involve designers in everything we do to make sure we maintain a level of sophistication and visual continuity to aid and never detract from the message. We feel tremendously fortunate to do what we do with deep rooted curiosity and enthusiasm as we look towards opportunities to learn, to grow and to innovate.
The Baked Studios team is comprised of compositors, designers, filmmakers, storytellers, writers, CG artists, animators, cyclists, wrestlers, ice hockey players and parents. We are open, collaborative and make use of our collective experience both inside the studio as well as out to shape and give meaning to everything we do. We find it isn’t always about the best animator or the best modeler, but more about the RIGHT individual for the task. Our ideal recipe is the perfect balance of talent, passion and willingness to learn from and work in concert with others.
George A. Loucas
Founder / Exec. Creative Director
A NY native, George moved out to Los Angeles in 2004 to make his mark and pursue his love of Visual Effects. After spending a number of years working at various companies around town he took the plunge and opened BAKED STUDIOS in the summer of 2006.
Learning from the experience he had gained George put all his energy into creating a highly efficient and cutting edge operation while continuing to keep customer service and attention the top priority. Today George oversees the company creatively and plays a large role in both the innovation and the development of its internal project pipeline and network infrastructure. While not in the office George enjoys skiing, tennis, photography and most of all, Indian Food. He’s usually at the office though.
Over the past 19 years, Matt Hartle has worked on over a hundred A list features in a variety of capacities ranging from visual effects and main title design to theatrical advertising and motion graphics. He has helmed departments as 3d Director/Creative Director at two major film advertising companies, BLT Communications in Hollywood and Deva Studios in Santa Monica. Some career highlights include Super Man – Man of Steel, several of the Harry Potter Films, the Sony Pictures Animation Logo and the Lionsgate Logo. While on these projects, Matt has had the privilege of working with many wonderful directors including Steven Spielberg, Chris Columbus, John Favreau and Wolfgang Peterson.
Matthew Dean Russell
Producer & Partner
Originally from Los Angeles, California, Matthew returned home after receiving his degree in Media and Theatre Arts where he studied at the downtown Denver campus of the University of Colorado. By the time Matt packed up his bags for the move out west to pursue his dream of making a career in feature film, he had already been nominated for multiple regional Emmy awards and had directed a feature film circling the festival network to his credit.
Once Matthew set foot back on California soil it didn’t take him long to find a niche in the visual effects industry. For about a decade he worked his up the studio ladder on such films as Elf, Blade Trinity, Final Destination 3 and Die Hard 4 just to name a few. Over his time spent in the Hollywood circuit, he also worked a Rhythm & Hues on back-to-back shows, Night at the Museum and Charlotte’s Web.
After a long run as an independent gun for hire in the VFX industry, Matthew was able to branch out and pursue his passion to produce and direct. His first feature film to get nation wide theatrical release was Seven Days in Utopia, starring Robert Duvall, Melissa Leo and Lucas Black. From there he jumped into Producing the film The Identical, starring Ray Liotta, Ashley Judd and Seth Green which opened in over two-thousand screens across America.
All the while maintaining a love for visual effects, Matthew continued to produce and supervise for a VFX company that he single handedly built from the ground up. The company thrived on doing independent features such as Miss Meadows and The Surface, while also performing services on studio blockbusters like The Last Witch Hunter and The Great Wall.
Today Matthew is one of the creative forces over at Baked FX, offering services in producing and supervision, while still maintaining a career as a writer, director and producer. He finally feels at home over at Baked in this stage of his career, having the fine pleasure of continuing to build something special with many of his life long friends that also reside within the company.
Born and raised in Zimbabwe, Southern Africa, Chris Hoffman made his way to California, where he worked as Art Director at bi-coastal Transistor Studios’ LA office, and as Art Director for Superfad. After leaving Superfad, Chris has been commissioned for collaborations with power-house studios including Imaginary Forces, Picture Mill, and Riot, while collecting numerous awards along the way. Chris served as creative director of Deva LA, before co-founding creative production studio, The Core, in 2008 (thecore.la). Working as a creative lead in production, Chris has worked on world premier brands such as VW, Sony’s AXN, Yahoo, Cisco, Microsoft, Pepsi, Bacardi, Lego Star Wars, Nike, At&t, Revlon, Dodge, ESPN, Mattel, Bud Light, Blackberry, HTC, Burger King and Toyota. This has given him the great opportunity to work with innovative teams of artists and creatives from both the advertising and production aspect of these brands. This has also afforded invaluable experience on insight as to how these leading brands approach and solve creative problems, while pushing the envelope of design and advertising. In the network and broadcast arena, Chris held the creative helm of the enormous task of rebranding Sony’s AXN international network.
Chris Hoffman is known for his bold use of color in his design based commercials and live action work. Along with his 6 years of creative directing experience, he also brings a unique point of view to his work having come from a vastly different culture and background, Zimbabwe, along with having studied and further developed his skill-set in the United States. He currently lives and works in LA.
Chad Feeback entered the world of creative video production in 2001 after moving to Los Angeles from Indiana. A Hoosier with a background in video editing, he helped launch Transistor Studios’ LA office as Studio Manager in early 2002. Chad could be found shooting, acting, editing and creating sound design in addition to producing a wide range of broadcast promos for Vh1, MTV and Fuel, embracing the guerrilla style production approach.
After leaving Transistor in 2004, Chad went on to produce for Buck, Troika and The Famous Group, managing traditional commercial work and content for advertising agencies, broadcast networks and professional sports teams. Although the projects spanned all sectors of production, from live action, CG animation, editorial and visual effects, a common factor remained in every job…the need to capture and communicate the core values of the brand.
In 2008 Chad joined with Chris Hoffman to launch The Core, a branding and creative production company in Marina Del Rey. The Core served as creative partners for work on Cisco and Yahoo! with Ogilvy, the Lego Star Wars franchise with Trailer Park / Goodness, and Visa and Energizer with TBWA/Chiat Day.
In 2013, after five years of operating as Principal at The Core, Chad decided to pursue a new business opportunity at Picture Mill in Hollywood. As Executive Producer, Chad forged the road ahead for new creative partnerships outside of Picture Mill’s well respected film clientele. 2013 also provided Chad with the most rewarding production in his career, the birth of his son Zayne.
2015 finds Chad joining Baked Studios as Executive Producer. He is excited to bring 14 years of production experience to the table, and looks forward to future collaborations with tv, film, advertising and brand clients.
Away from the laptop and cell phone, Chad loves spending time with his wife Nevin. He finds relaxation caring for his rare plant collection and taking urban hikes. At random points in his existence he was a baker at a pretzel factory, shot by a single .45 caliber bullet, thrilled to scuba dive a blue hole on Andros Island, guest refereed an underground fight in Manilla and spent a month living with monks in Sakamoto, a village in Japan which no longer exists.
He hates mustard, loves colorful sneakers and if given the chance to do it all over again, would still find himself a purveyor of fine handcrafted bespoke video production.
Born, raised, and educated in Central Florida, Evan Ghigliotty started his artistic journey by taking every art class his high school had to offer. Doing so, he earned vocational scholarships that allowed him to pursue his passions at the Innovative School for the Entertainment Arts, Full Sail University. After graduating with a degree in Computer Animation, Evan and a group of his fellow graduates moved to Los Angeles to launch their careers. Immediately after arriving, by using his keen sense of color and sharpened eye for detail, Evan began compositing on many various film and commercial projects. Since beginning his career and expanding his professional network, Evan has continues to hone in his skills by taking additional courses at institutions such as Gnomon School of Visual Effects.
Aaron Rovner is a visual effects artist based out of Los Angeles. He attended USC’s Animation and Digital Arts program where he received training in animation and visual effects. Since school, Aaron has been working and growing his skills at studios including Method, Neither-Field, Moo, and of course, Baked. In addition to his film and commercial credits, Aaron has created visual content for popular musicians including Calvin Harris, Bjork, Skrillex, Zedd, and Madeon. As a generalist, he has experience in the worlds of 2D and 3D design, modeling, animation, lighting, and compositing.
A midwest native and Purdue University alumnus, Benjamin Mullin moved to Los Angeles to fulfill his dream. After gaining professional experience in all areas of film production with various companies, he chose the world of Post where films truly comes to life and his passion prevails. His love of travel has taken him to Mexico, Canada, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Peru and 49 states. One of his lifetime goals is to travel to every single country.
When he is not at Baked, he can be found listening to and creating music, working on personal projects, spending quality time with friends or lost on a mountain in the middle of a hike while enjoying a breeze with a widespread view. Everyday he trains his eye but of course as they say, a movie a day keeps the eye doctor away.
Post Coordinator / Studio Manager
After leaving her hometown in Southwest Florida, Nikki packed up her things in a U-haul and drove across country to launch her artistic career in Los Angeles, California. She has a degree in culinary arts, but decided to switch career paths immediately after discovering true passion for production. Nikki enjoys working in Production because it allows her to bring ideas to life. During her spare time, she loves making various pickles, hiking with her dog, shopping at the Hollywood farmers market, & seeing live music.
After leaving his hometown in Southwest Florida at the age of 3, Marley packed up his things in a U-haul and drove across country to launch his artistic career in Los Angeles, California. His strengths at Baked Studios are: greeting guests upon arrival, napping, & being a positive mood booster to all of his colleagues.
In Marley’s spare time, he enjoys rolling in the grass, devouring home cooked meals (especially salmon), belly rubs, going to golf tournaments just to yell out ‘jackass,’ & herding.
Located in downtown Culver City, minutes from Main St., you’ll find the Baked Studios’ main hub. Spread across more than 6000sqft of creative workspace, we have the capacity and technological bandwidth to handle projects of every size. The studio features a balance of creative offices and open recreational areas to help provide balance and outside perspective throughout the day.
To serve our east coast clients, we are currently underway on a New York studio. Aside from proximity benefits, the new workspace will seamlessly interface with our Culver City Studio allowing work to take place concurrently and also qualify for the attractive State Tax Credits which we’ll be able to extend back to our clients.
